Philip Stanton

Philip Stanton is a self-taught professional artist born in Liverpool, who has lived and worked in North Wales since the 1980's.

He works in both oils and watercolours on a wide range of subjects although is probably best known for his landscape paintings. His aim is to achieve a powerful three dimensional effect with a combination of strong colours and textures, often in dramatic lighting, drawing the observer into the work.

Examples of his work are included in galleries and collections throughout Britain including those of the University of Bangor, and Bodelwyddan Castle Museum and Art Gallery. Bodelwyddan is a regional partner of the National Portrait Gallery and its recent acquisition of Philip's oil painting of South Stack lighthouse was the gallery's first purchase of the work of a contemporary artist.

Work has also made its way to Japan, Australia, the Middle East and the U.S.
